I ❤ Vermeer’s View of Delft.

Yeah, so about that blogging marathon. Not sure what happened to that because it has been a WEEK since I last blogged.  Oops.  I survived my first round of exams for the semester.  Wasn’t sure what to expect since it has been over a month since I’ve been in school again, but I did fine and now I’m getting ready for mid-winter break.  Before I know it, April will roll around and I will be done with school for the year 😀 😀

I have had an increasing interest in art recently, mostly because I’m taking an art class this semester.  It has been so fun to read different art history books and gain a new perspective on art that I didn’t consider “lovely” or “beautiful”.  I recently found a Francis Schaeffer pamphlet from L’Abri titled “Art and the Bible“.  Oh. my. goodness.  Such a good book.  It’s about sixty pages, but each one is jammed with so many great things.  I have highlighted several quotes and hope to be sharing some here in the near future.  It’s definitely a good read for everyone!

…to TWENTY that is 😀  (It would have been cool to say that I made it to Paris or something…you know, a surprise birthday trip, but whatever.)

I love being twenty so far 😉 According to my 5yo sister, I don’t look any different than I did when I was 19, so that’s a plus 😀 😀

Valentines Day is today.  Yes I’m still single and yes, I plan on staying that way for quite a while.  However, that doesn’t mean that I can’t love, does it?  Last night, after reading a particular book, I decided to read I Corinthians 13.  I don’t know how or why I flipped there, but I did and actually decided to read the chapter.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Yipes. Every time I read I Corinthians 13, I always brush it off because I don’t have a significant other to love.  Then the thought struck me that I didn’t need that.  God commands us to love our neighbors and even our enemies.  Ouch!  I’ll admit, I have not been the best at loving those around me lately and God used this chapter to convict me of that.  Frequently I’m envious, impatient, rude and unfortunately, I have an elephant memory that compiles all the wrongs others have done to me.  Instead of bemoaning my singleness this season, I’ve decided to work hard on overcoming my own faults and loving those that God has placed in my life.  img_7045crop1

Today is Charles Darwin’s birthday.

Today is Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.

Both were born February 12, 1809.  They would both be 200 this year.

Both would dramatically change the world in their own ways.

I have noticed that Darwin has been given much attention for his 200th birthday.  Even at school today, there were multiple presentations by various faculty on the life and achievements of the man.  Although I don’t necessarily agree with what Darwin believes, I feel I should respect him.  In addition, knowing what Darwin believes helps me to know what Darwinists believe as opposed to Intelligent Designers.

However. I have heard virtually nothing about Lincoln today and I find that incredibly sad.  Lincoln may not have developed a scientific theory, but he did help to free millions of slaves and was incredibly courageous during his term in office.  This was no small feat!  Dealing with a nation at war with itself is horrid and it’s a miracle that we’re all living in the United States of America today.

I’m not trying to play fair and square here, but I believe that Lincoln should not be forgotten in the hype over Darwin.  With that said….

Happy birthday Charles Darwin!

Happy birthday Abe Lincoln!

…I’m three full days behind on my bloggity marathon.  But I have some valid excuses 😉

On Saturday, Sarah Modene came and visited me for the day 🙂 Unfortunately, both of us forgot about pictures.

Sunday I was able to spend some quality time with my grandparents since my birthday is coming up.  They took me up to Ruth’s Chris which is a really nice steakhouse. I am still stuffed!

Any extra time was spent gathering research for a panel discussion I had this afternoon.

So there are my excuses.  I’m getting back on track as I have some really neat posts to share with you all this week 🙂  Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!!!

There’s a peace I’ve come to know
Though my heart and flesh may fail
There’s an anchor for my soul
I can say “It is well”

Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles’ wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

There’s a day that’s drawing near
When this darkness breaks to light
And the shadows disappear
And my faith shall be my eyes

Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles’ wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

And I hear the voice of many angels sing,
“Worthy is the Lamb”
And I hear the cry of every longing heart,
“Worthy is the Lamb”
